Hello, and welcome to the September/back-to-school edition.
It’s been a long, hot summer, but the rain is finally here. Give it a couple of weeks, and we’ll be able to take our jumpers out of retirement. The nights might be getting shorter, but there is plenty happening in healthtech land to keep us busy between now and, dare I say it *whispers*, of Christmas.
Kicking off the proceedings, we’re hosting a panel at Hale House tomorrow with Rt. Hon Sir Jeremy Hunt MP, Tara Donnelly and Jack Needham, to ask whether the NHS is about to waste the AI moment. It’s a big line-up and a big conversation.
If you’re in the mental health innovation space, the Mental Health Innovation Network is also hosting its annual showcase. Tickets for the main event are sold out, but you can still join the waitlist, and there are spaces for the evening network, so definitely don’t miss that one.
Later in the month, Birmingham Life Sciences Week and HETT are both back, and the ABHI is closing out September with its sustainability conference. And looking a little further ahead, Harley Street Health District is back with its Biannual conference too, this time at the prestigious 1 Wimpole Street.

The three speakers we’ve asked to begin the conversation have each experienced a different part of this problem.
The Rt Hon Sir Jeremy Hunt ran the department that sets the rules, as former Secretary of State for Health and Social Care. Tara Donnelly ran digital transformation from inside NHS England, close enough to the machinery to know exactly where it falls short. Jack Needham is building Sanctuary Health from outside both positions, trying to get real AI solutions through a system that has a history of stifling innovation.
Expect three very different perspectives, all shaped by different relationships to power within this industry.
