April may well be in full flow, but this month’s events are only just getting started. Happy to report that my first event in a while, One Healthtech and Hale House’s International Women’s Day celebration, was exactly what I needed to dust the networking cobwebs off, catch up with brilliant people and hear from other awesome women about failing forward and owning your leadership style.

Attending a solitary event has clearly given me the bug, and so SomX Healthtech Talks is finally back on 28 April. Preventative healthcare still has some big questions that, as yet, remain unsatisfactorily answered, so we’re inviting the healthtech community to tackle them in an open debate and discussion, alongside Neko Health’s Hjalmar Nilsonne and Dr Nikita Kanani MBE. If you’re in NHS / health system leadership, academia, public health, policy, investment, founder/board-level, private health, insurance and beyond, and have views on who pays, who should deliver and who benefits, you need to be in the room.

Finally, it might be early, but I’m already limbering up for HLTH Europe (pacing the conference floor and the obligatory morning runs). Three years in, and it’s become a focal point in the healthtech calendar, bringing together a deluge of investors, innovators and providers in Amsterdam. The sun has got its hat on ☀️

And I, for one, feel myself being pulled out of hibernation with every extra dose of vitamin D.

As usual, January was 10,000 years long, February flew by in mere seconds, somehow we’re closing in on the end of Q1 and the events keep rolling.

I’ve joked about hibernation, but truthfully, with a one-year-old that doesn’t sleep, I’ve been in something of an events hiatus these last few months, unless I can leave home after 8.15am and get back before 5pm.

But no more, I’m braving the separation anxiety and getting back out to immerse myself in the community and buzz I’ve so badly missed (while also trying to figure out how to put on an event with childcare, but leave that with me… I’m still working on that one).

It seems appropriate, therefore, to kickstart my new IRL resolve by heading to Hale House this Thursday to celebrate International Women’s Day with One Healthtech.

It’s fireworks from here on out friends.

Tis the season for non-stop fireworks - we’ve had Diwali and Halloween, Bonfire night is looming and we’re now all just waving sparklers, oohing and ahhing at the sky until the last firework over London Bridge for New Year 2026.

October flew by and November is already steaming ahead - kicking off with some big ticket events in store for the next couple of weeks and into the rest of the month.

HealthtechX is back today at the Hurlingham Club - I’ll be chatting on stage with experts from Flo, Phlo (yes, you read that right), Patients Know Best and Doctify about the evolving B2C landscape and how that fits into the wider healthcare ecosystem.

The brilliant BMJ Future Health conference kicks off on Thursday 6 - Friday 7 November too, with some epic discussions. James is speaking to Numan’s Grace Hatton, Octopus’ Chantal Cox and the Clinical Entrepreneurs programme’s Tamsin Holland Brown on new career directions for clinicians.

I personally am also really looking forward to hearing Dr Annabelle Sowemimo and Dr Bola Owelabi share their thoughts on heath equity and creating a future of healthcare that works for everyone and the session titled ‘Navigating finance for innovators in healthcare’ with Young Lives vs Cancer’s Innovation Lab’s Helen McShane, Apian’s Juliet Bauer, Albion VC’s Molly Gilmartin and Recode Ventures’ Vishal Gulati.

Needless to say, there is a lot going on this week and plenty of great conversations to jump into. Thursday is sold out, but tickets for Friday are still available. PIGEON20 gets you 20% off your ticket price if you haven’t registered yet.

Oh hello there!

It’s been a while friends - BBQs, beer gardens, and bank holidays are over, school is well and truly in session, it’s officially PSL season and less than 100 days until the C-word.

And while the temperature might well be dropping over here in the UK, healthtech events are hotting up - it’s full steam ahead until the end of the year.

I feel like I’ve only just recovered from HLTH Europe and yet, HLTH USA is already here - I’m (sadly) sitting this one out as I think I’ve just about reached my limit on overseas travel with a tiny wriggly human, but I’m excited for the FOMO. Don’t let me down!

Keeping my feet firmly on home turf, I’m currently on my way to chat women’s health with the sparkly UK NXGN team at this evening’s event. Hello and welcome to the first SomX Events Roundup of 2025. And judging by our calendar, it’s shaping up to be a very busy year indeed for healthtech and biotech!

I don’t know about you, but one of our 2025 resolutions is to make more meaningful connections within the healthtech and biotech community. We’re already looking forward to the next opportunity to see everybody in person, and hatching our own plans to bring you all together.

If you’re a healthtech professional, 2025 has already got off to a strong start, with J.P. Morgan and ARAB Health providing a slew of international networking opportunities for the industry’s movers, shakers and dealmakers. Trick or treat means one thing and one thing only… we can start talking about Christmas 👀🎄

If you thought October was busy, November has you in for a treat - judging by next month’s events roster you really will be ready for a Christmas break when it comes. And if you’re still recovering from HLTH Vegas, the rest of us have no sympathy (only FOMO).

November starts strong with one of our favourite events in the calendar - Medtech World in Malta. For anyone looking for a final fix of healthtech in the European sunshine for 2024, head over to Skyscanner and book those flights (and conference tickets) immediately. I’m having to sit it out this year as I’m in the final few weeks of growing a healthtech bro, but with any luck, I’ll be on the plane with this little one in tow for 2025.

Closer to home (for me) The BMJ is also unveiling its very first innovation conference Future Health. On 19-20 November they’re bringing together patients, clinicians and innovators to discuss real-life challenges first-hand and explore how we can all make impact together. It’s dark, wet and cold but I’m still overheating in my knitted jumper… Autumn is here. And with it comes arguably the BUSIEST season for events. Here's to hoping those conference coffee carts are serving Pumpkin Spiced Lattes… (I hate PSLs, but it’s an Autumn thing…) 🎃.

As ever, September has flown by and yet there are still so many events to come this week before the month is out. We’re looking forward to seeing lots of you this evening for our latest Healthtech Talks as we dive into biotech. It’s also HETT week AND, Google’s wonderful Dillion Obika is hosting Black in Healthtech on Wednesday 25th!

October seems to be kicking off an international roadshow that lasts until the end of the year with Munich’s Bits and Pretzels and the much-anticipated HLTH Vegas, before carrying through to one of our favourites - Medtech World in Malta, followed but MedFit in Lille and Healthtech Forward in Barcelona. My baby-induced travel ban means I’ll be scrolling LinkedIn with the ultimate FOMO, but I’m planning to take the tiny healthtech bro on a world healthtech tour next year so hopefully see you on a plane / conference floor in 2025…

And some exciting news closer to home - 🐦 Healthtech Pigeon is a Media Partner for this year’s Sifted Summit 🐦 - tipped to be a VC scouting ground, it’s one of the most exciting tech startup events of the year! Well hello again, and welcome back to another bumper healthtech events roundup including London Tech Week, HLTH Europe and more.

We might only be halfway through, but our May highlight (biased, us?) was the return of our Healthtech Talks event series, hosted by our friends at Google. Our incredible panellists – Numan CEO Sokratis Papafloratos, Flo Health CMO Anna Klepchukova and GP and content creator Dr Simi Adedeji – had a wide-ranging discussion on how information is the new gatekeeper of healthcare, and our collective responsibility to ensure its quality and accuracy.

Among an already bustling events calendar, we’d like to give a special shoutout to Young Lives vs Cancer. Earlier this week, we attended the launch of their new innovation fund. With a focus on young people (ages 1-25) and their families, the charity aims to back early-stage ventures innovating at the intersection of cancer and mental health. Funded by donations, and with a laser-focused remit, this fund feels fresh, progressive and incredibly inspiring – we can’t wait to see what impact it’ll have!

But onto the main event, which is June - and boy, are we in for a treat!

April has seen a steady flow of events - the panels I managed to catch at London Business School Healthcare Club’s annual conference saw some tough questions from the audience…the kind of event energy I love to see!

Huw and Daisy headed to Manchester to celebrate the NHS Innovation Accelerator’s 2024 Cohort launch. Jess hosted our second Meet-up Club with the Health Foundry, providing an afternoon of coworking (I’m assured some work was done…) and a libatious debrief at a local watering hole, The Pineapple. James unveiled his brand new keynote exploring whether AI can ever have true empathy at The Digital Healthcare Show yesterday and I’ll also be heading over to the LSX World Congress next week.

May is picking up the pace, kicking off a busy first week for global healthcare IRL with the London Biotechnology Show, The Digital Health Festival in Melbourne, The Longevity Med Summit in Lisbon and, of course, our Healthtech Talks.

It’s abundantly clear that the 2024 events season is officially in session - February and March kicked us off as we mean to continue with HealthtechX, HETT North and of course our very first Healthtech Podcast LIVE amongst the highlights and a special for mention our media partnership with WIRED Health this week too. There are still a couple of events next week including TORTUS Primary Care Launch and the Edinburgh Medtech Forums - head over to our events page to grab last-minute tickets.
